DSI is a fully-owned subsidiary of Schoeller-Bleckmann Oilfield Equipment AG (SBO) and is specialized in products (downhole circulation tools) which actuate the flow path of the drilling fluid (mud) in the drillstring. Therefore DSI is with its technology the global market leader in this attractive niche.

The primary purpose of the “PBL Multiple Activation Autolock Bypass System” (PBL tool) is to prevent drilling mud loss during the drilling process. Therefore lost-circulation materials (LCM) are added directly to the drilling fluid and are circulated to the formation where the loss of fluid occurs. At this location, they tend to form a physical plug which arrests the fluid loss. Critical bottom hole assembly components such as MWD and LWD tools can be prevented from being blocked when a high concentration of lost-circulation material (LCM) is pumped.

In addition the „PBL tool“ can also be used for hole cleaning. Hence limited flow rate situations can be avoided. The “PBL tool” has proven to be a financially beneficial incentive for operators, by substantially reducing loss rig time and circulating hours. The relative simple technology in comparison to other BHA components (no DSI employees need to be on site) results in high levels of reliability. This has been a key driver in its uptake by operators.
