Electromagnetic propagationThe passing of electromagnetic energy through a medium. Most MWD resistivity logs are based on electromagnetic propagation and typically operate at high frequencies (typically between hundreds of KHz and a couple of MHz). They are used for correlation and to determine formation electrical properties or invasion characteristics. MWD tools record the phase shift and attenuation of electromagnetic energy through the formation near the borehole, which are then converted into resistivities and dielectric properties.

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)As a recovery enhancement method fluids are injected into the depleted reservoir to recover more oil.

ExplorationIn mining and geology, exploration refers to the development (detailed analysis) of reservoirs and mineral (or oil and gas deposits) in the earth's crust. Drilling of an exploration well is an essential part of the initial phase in petroleum operations. Appraisal (see appraisal well), development and production (see oil production) phases follow successful exploration.

Exploration and Production (E&P)These terms refer to the search for and extraction of crude oil and natural gas.
